Although the Queensland Jewish community is considerably smaller than Victoria or New South Wales, its volunteer Community Security Group (CSG) is active in protecting Jewish life and the Jewish way of life in the Sunshine State.

Jason Steinberg

This Sunday (7 April) the CSG in Queensland are holding an inaugural appeal.

On Sunday, during just 24 hours, the Jewish community of Queensland will unite to raise funds to support CSG volunteers in Brisbane, Gold Coast and beyond.
Jason Steinberg, Vice President of the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies, said he hoped that other community members across Australia would also unite behind Queensland and see the importance of supporting the CSG in a small community.
“There are hundreds of ex-Queenslanders living in Sydney and Melbourne who may wish to support the CSG,” Jason said.
“Add to that the thousands of Jewish visitors we have to the Gold Coast and Brisbane every year – there could be many people who’d want to make a donation via the Charidy website to help the CSG in QLD.”
Jason also said there had been an increase in antisemitic incidents in the state. In 2018, incidents increased from 29 to 49 – most of which related to far-right activity.
Every donation made to www.charidy.com/csg will be doubled by generous matching donors.

I was probably one of the statistics in that increase of incidents. Shortly after moving to Queensland last December I received a package from the USA. It contained the most vile anti semitic ” porn” I have ever seen. Real Hitlerian Nazi stuff.

The material was forwarded to the NSW Board of Deputies. A representative contacted us and advised that they knew of this extremist Christian group from Tennessee.

By way of interest, my wife and myself are not Jewish but among our friends our support for Israel, and mine for the IDF in particular, is well known. We have visited Israel and I have a Jewish half sister. Sadly, because of the circumstances, we believe it was arranged by one of our friends. I guess you never really know people.
