The late Barry Cohen, who had been a federal minister, asserted that the Australian Labor Party had become an antisemitic party.
Of course neither he (nor I) claimed that there are no exceptions, but the ethos of the party has been hijacked by people who hate Jews.
There is nothing new about “left-wing” antisemitism; the right does not have a monopoly on it.

When Labor cabinet ministers can come out with the most fanciful fabricated fictions about Jews bribing journalists, about Jerusalem being a great Arab city, about Ariel Sharon being a war criminal, about Israel being a rogue state—-and then telling us that they “know the ‘troof’ about ‘Palestine’, we know “where they’re coming from,” and we don’t hide our heads in the sand.

Israel’s Zionist Union ( Labor) Party has just withdrawn from the Socialist International because of the latter’s joining the anti-Israel boycott movement.
The Zionist Union specified antisemitism as a motivating force in the Socialists’ decision.
There is evidence of the same force operating within the ALP.
It’s not just votes.
Those to whom Labor’s anti-Israel stance appeals the most have always voted Labor for reasons which I’m sure we know.

As retiring Labor MP Michael Danby warned his Party in February 2017:
“Extending diplomatic recognition to a state of ‘Palestine’ that does not exist would be an exercise in wishful thinking, not realism.”
