I fail to understand how the Israeli government, any Israeli administration can negotiate with an entity which does not recognise the entity it is supposed to be negotiating with, nor accept the right of that entity to exist as an independent sovereign Jewish nation with secure borders. To me, personally, this does not make sense.
Right now, the U.K. is negotiating a trade agreement with the EU following its decision to leave that organisation. It has three red lines on which it is not willing to compromise. Firstly, it insists on being accepted once more as an independent sovereign coastal nation with complete control over its own fisheries within its territorial waters. Secondly, it has stated that it will no longer be subservient to European laws, and insists that the primary judiciary will return to British laws. Thirdly, it no longer wishes to accede to the EU's 'level playing field' which stifles trade and competition.
So should Israel also have its own three red lines. Firstly, the PA, the PLO, and other Palestinian groups must recognise Israel as an independent sovereign JEWISH state with secure borders. Second, the PA and its affiliated groups MUST STOP paying terrorists and the families of these criminals to kill Israeli citizens and cause terror and bloodshed within Israel and on its borders. Last, but by no means least, the PA MUST END the systematic and institutional brainwashing of Palestinian students to hate Israel and all things Israeli.
Perhaps if the PA were to agree to these terms and rigidly enforce them for a period of time, say five years, then, perhaps, there might be scope for discussion and negotiation.
How can any Israeli government currently talk to a body like the PA when all of their local and regional maps do not show Israel as a state. Instead, it shows all of current Israel as being 'Palestine' So much for a 'two state solution'
In my opinion, the Palestinians are not now, nor have ever been interested in a 'shared territory' solution. They want a single state resolution, one in which there is no place for Israel, or the Jewish population.
Israel has compromised enough to gain peace for its people. Nothing has changed. The time for more compromising from Israel is over.
