The point is making empty statements that you have no intention of fulfilling, actually internalising one's Avodah instead of lip service. Financial considerations are only one of many. However if you decide to be serious, then you will do it, just like everyone else that did, because they chose being with their nation and fulfilling Torah was more important. There are plenty who will help you financially if you decide to make Aliyah, there are those who will even sponser you, all you have to do is ask around and organise it. Lack of finances is an excuse for most, not a reality, like most other excuses.

Only those Jews who experienced the two Geulas to date, Egypt and Bavli, who were physically prepared to uproot and head home to Eretz Yisraol merited redemption on a spiritual level. All those who did not make the physical aliyah integrated into a Galus lifestyle. Galus was meant to be a punishment not a lifestyle. There are those who contest this, but the truth of Torah stands. Rav Shlomo Teichtal proved this halachically in his book, Eim Habanim Semeichah. So when you sit at the Seder saying "Next year in Jerusalem" - if you dont mean it, its better not to say it and bring the punishment upon yourself.
Those that choose not to join the Torah Nation physically, remove their probability of making the Aliyah on a spiritual level. Consider this carefully next time someone tells you its 'just fine' to stay in Galus. Halachically its not.
