Perth joins the Limmud family

The inaugural Limmud – Oz Perth has marked an historic moment in the W.A. Jewish community.

Enjoying Limmud

Joining 80 other Limmud communities around the world, the event brought together more than 350 people to take one step further in our Jewish journey, both as a community and as individuals.

On his second trip to Perth, U.K. born co-founder of the global Limmud movement, Clive Lawton, opened the proceedings by noting the inspiring and community-defining nature that the profoundly simple day is.

The diverse array of educational sessions were facilitated by high-calibre presenters both from our local community, the eastern states and overseas. Participants experienced glass fusion art workshops to discussions on permaculture and politics in Israel, as well as exploring more local issues such as the role of our youth movements and whether Jewish schools should teach what Israel does wrong. provide a learning experience for the youth. There was an inspirational environment of cross-pollination, collaborative thought and questioning that underpinned the entire day.

The generous support of our community and the entire Jewish world made this event possible, with the Schusterman Foundation, Limmud International and Carmel School each playing an integral role.

From now Limmud-Oz Perth will be a feature in the community calendar each year. Limmud will work to contribute significantly to the strengthening and rejuvenation of Perth’s small, diverse and unique community.
