For me, the main stumbling block to true and lasting peace is the virulently entrenched view which denies Israel the right to exist in spite of numerous international agreements. People can put forward all the list they like, but until the view is one of acknowledgement of Israel's right to be is truely and universally accepted and implemented then lasting progress is but a sham. And as for the inability to accept that this IS a religious conflict, well that beggars belief.

You are absolutely right David. Ross is proposing that Israel trade land for changed Arab attitudes - or as I call it , based on past broken promises - a land for lies exchange.

The failures who regurgitate failed proposals do so as a matter of ego. If it finally works, they could salvage some of their prestige. The problem is that even the airy-fairy proposals put to the Arabs won't be accepted. There is no way that Hamas would even contemplatetoning down its jihad rhetoric against Israel and the PA could not reverse its hostility to Israel, even if it wanted to, which if doesn't, without losing legitimacy.

Has-beens like Ross can do themselves a favour by shutting up or finding a backbone admitting they were wrong and stating the obvious: the conflict is religious and not political and it will only end with either Israel or the Palestinian Arabs being destroyed. The question is whether Ross is on the side of the Jewish people or on the side of the Arabs and the internaitional community which would be overjoyed if Israel was extinguished and Jews were put back into their inferior positions in host societies.
