This article really bothered me. My wife, adult son and I were in Israel last year and ended up staying – accidently – in a Palestinian hotel in the village on top of HarZayith (Mt. of Olives) in East Jerusalem. As Australians, the locals were friendly to us but those who could speak English always engaged us in conversation which inevitably turned to politics. It was mainly Christian Palestinians whom we dealt with and they expressed a real and genuine fear of the establishment of a recognised Palestinian State and most said that should this happen they would try to immigrate to Israel proper, as refugees. The Palestinine ‘Authority’ is systematically oppressing Palestinian Christians and the demographics show that in traditional Christian areas – Bethlehem etc. – the Christian population is being forced out by intimidation and force, and is now only a shadow of the Christian population of only two or three decades ago.
Although we didn’t make it specifically known we were Jewish, I guess the kippur, the siddur and my wife’s magan-divid necklace might have given the game away, most Palestinians we encountered were very sympathetic to Judaism and Israel, and hated the ‘hard men’ and the violent politics – they called Hamas and the PLO “gangsters and murdering thugs” but they told us this privately, there was great fear. We should have more news and truthful reporting about how religious minorities in ‘the Palestinian territories’ are being oppressed. I would like to submit a whole article on these matters.

I agree with M.S.Sharwood’s view that the negotiations are a charade. Can Israel afford to suspend the negotiations until the PA agrees to recognize Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people? I am of the view that it can and must because after 17 years of negotiations and 62 years of non-recognition it is time to take a stand and end the charade that currently passes for “negotiations”.

Dr.Nabeel Shaath’s statements merely reinforce the inescapable truth that the Palestinians are merely going through the motions, no doubt to placate Western sensibilities.In the same way, Israel has no choice but to continue the charade, and cannot afford to suspend the negotiations, as suggested, meaningless as they undoubtedly are.

Golda Meir said it long ago: “There will only be peace when they love their children more than they hate us”.

Seeing the virulent and malicious indoctrination by the most vile and jew-demonising “educational TV programmes for Palestinian children”, which by any civilised stardards are serious child abuse, I see no indication of that. 🙁
