Keynote speaker at this year’s NSW Council of Christians and Jews Annual General Meeting will be State Opposition Leader,
Barry O’Farrell.
The meeting will be held on Thursday 18  August at 6pm in the Strangers Room of the New Sout Wales Parliament.
Council president William Szekely indicated that Mr. O’Farrell will address a topic related to “Interfaith and Government”
which he said will undoubtedly be of interest to a wide represenative section of the community.
“For this reason we would be delighted to welcome anyone with an interest in this area of concern beyond the immediate membership of the Council”, he stressed.
Mr. Szekely added that the O’Farrell presentation would be closely related to the recent Berlin Document highlighting
the “12 Points of Seelisburg” which fostered the concepts of interfaith understanding.
The 2008 Berlin Conference document reinforced the need to combat religious, racial and all other forms of antisemitism,
to acknowledge the efforts of Christian communities in the late 20th century to reform their attitudes toward Jews and to
re-examine Jewish texts and liturgy in view of these Christian reforms.
In particular in the light of current situations it emphasises the need to differentiate between fair-minded criticism of Israel and antisemitism, to enhance dialogue with political and economic bodies and to network with all those whose work responds to the demands of environmental stewardship.
Refreshents at the Annual General Meeting will be kosher catered, the Council noted.
