NSW Maccabi has emailed its members asking them to back the incumbent Hakoah Club board at the upcoming AGM…following the stance taken by the Lowy family.

In his letter to members, president Danny Hochberg states: “Maccabi NSW has historically chosen to take a neutral stance with regard to the debate over White City, in order to allow its members who are members of Hakoah, to decide for themselves, and to avoid getting drawn into a divisive process.

Maccabi NSW, has throughout this process remained committed to the vision of a home for Jewish sport combined with communal facilities at White City.

Yesterday, Frank Lowy AC, the patron of Jewish sport in NSW, a Maccabi NSW Hall of Fame Member and a Life Governor of Hakoah made a statement in favour of a further year’s tenure for the current Board of Hakoah to achieve its vision (Refer to attachment via link below). Frank Lowy acknowledged that this vision includes sporting facilities for Maccabi clubs, 9 tennis courts for Maccabi tennis, a full football field for use across the football spectrum, and communal facilities. Maccabi NSW has been involved in the process of achieving this vision, with Hakoah, and is very comfortable with it. The Lowys’ decision to become involved in the realisation of this site is a further injection of confidence.

Maccabi NSW supports Frank Lowy’s position.”

Some usual suspects in the dissenting group. Tried to overthrow the board at Montefiore, now trying their hand at Hakoah. These people are nothing short of greedy businessmen trying to milk the community’s assets for their own commercial gain.

Hakoah is a community asset and should remain that way for the benefit of everyone, most importantly our children.

Congratulations Maccabi NSW on backing Frank Lowy’s position.

It is a pity that David Balkin, Carl Reid and Andrew Boyarsky do not want to do likewise.

It would end the internecine in-fighting and present a positive way forward with all Hakoah members moving in the same step rather than treading on each other’s toes.

  3. Scheur Naji says:

The writing is on the wall, Hakoah Board, now with the Lowy stamp of approval, will have 12 months to bring there plan through all the necessary stage.
The dissenting group has been stymied, they need to graciously retreat.
