The President of the New South Wales Board of Deputies Yair Miller and the President of the JCA Peter Philippsohn, have welcomed the NSW Kashrut Authority’s (KA) acceptance of their nomination of five new lay leaders to be appointed to the Board of the KA.

They also have commended the KA on agreeing to a forensic review of the KA’s financial affairs to be conducted by an independent accountant engaged by the JCA.

After further mediation led by the Board of Deputies and the JCA with caterer Amaze In Taste (AIT), it has become apparent that there is still no immediate resolution to the current impasse. Whilst progress has been made towards dealing with the substantive issues of concern to AIT and the KA, AIT have stated that they are not comfortable working with the current KA under the current structure. In the meantime, AIT is providing catering under the hescher of Rabbi Yossi Feldman.

The KA operates as an arm of the Sydney Beth Din and any change in the rabbinic structure of the KA and oversight of kashrut in NSW is subject to the Sydney Beth Din. As such, the lay leadership of the community is not in a position to make any further progress. It has become clear during this extensive process, that there are differing views within the Sydney Rabbinate both as to the constitution and effectiveness of the current kashrut structure.

The Board of Deputies and JCA, now call on the Rabbinic leadership to urgently deal with the current confusion around halachic responsibility in kashrut in NSW and to propose a structure that is clear, accountable and acceptable to all.

Both the Board of Deputies and JCA stand ready and willing to continue to provide assistance to the parties, in the interests of communal harmony and the promotion of kashrut in Sydney.

Unfortunately it has come to a stage where we cannot eat at close friends and family simchas. Yossi Feldman and AIT you’ve destroyed what we’ve enjoyed and taken for granted.

    Back to this..

“As such, the lay leadership of the community is not in a position to make any further progress.” – Without the sad sacked Rabbi’s.

“AIT have stated that they are not comfortable working with the current KA under the current structure.”

Comfortable – shame, my mother always taught me it’s not about comfort rather it’s about getting the job done properly.

Which structure the KOSHER one ?

What was wrong with the way the KA was running for the past 20 years? If you ask me, the only organisation that needs restructuring (or dismantling) is AIT, who are slowly crippling one of our communities greatest assets, a unified Kashrut.
