Dr Harris will take over this leadership role from Mrs Shula Lazar, who has ably led the School for 6 years. Mrs Lazar is returning to Melbourne to take up the position of Principal at Leibler Yavneh College.

Dr Harris is regarded as one of the foremost experts in teaching and learning in WA, with extensive experience at other high performing schools.

Those who have worked with Dr Harris describe her as passionate about learning, an exceptional communicator and one of the best teachers in the industry.

In her own words, Dr Harris asserts that “education is the vocation through which I have chosen to make a difference.” Speaking on her move to Carmel School, she said “I feel honoured to have the privilege of leading Carmel School from 2022. I have a lot to learn and a lot to contribute; I have no doubt that it will be a fabulous experience. I can’t wait to meet the teachers and students who make the school a wonderful place to learn.”

Carmel Board President, Debbie Silbert said of the search for a new Principal, “Our selection process aimed to find a world-class educational leader who is a strong communicator, and who can connect with all aspects of the Perth Jewish and wider community.
