At a special meeting of the ORA Executive the decision was made to create a New ORA (NORA) to manage the affairs of the Rabbis of Australasia.

Rabbi Selwyn Franklin has been installed as interim President. An interim Executive was set up and a meeting will be held at short notice to create a modus operandi for the new organisation.

It was also decided that all honorary positions and titles of the old ORA be vacated pending the establishment of NORA. The first order of business will be to create a membership committee chaired by Rabbi Franklin which will carefully consider and vet all applications for membership of NORA to ensure a membership of the highest ethical integrity. All Rabbis are invited to apply for membership of the new organisation.

The fledgling organisation will hold its inaugural general meeting in May.

    Avigael, you are correct.
Knowing Rabbi Franklin as I do, I am sure under his stewardship the newly emerging organization will b resolute and bold in responding to all socal and religious issues.
It must be left in the hands of lawyers and the courts to conduct the appropriate investigations regarding abusers who as of yet have not been brought to justice.
I believe that the Rabbinate will fully endorse and support such a process.

I hope you are correct. Theres no shortage of cases coming his way, so once we know how NORA will handle these to conclusion is the next step. Words of anyone in the Australian Rabbinate can no longer be believed at face value.

Rabbi Selwyn Franklin is an excellent choice to revamp the representative body representing the Australian Rabbinate.
He is a thoughtful person, with a strong will and a diplomatic manner and has the experience to undertake such an important task in these most difficult times.
Let us pray to G-d that his endeavors will be crowned with success.

    • Avigael Cassel says:

Success and Trust will only be established if all of those disgusting individuals who dare call themselves ‘leaders’ who have destroyed many families are brought to Justice. First justice must be done, there needs a full enquiry of what is the victim count, who, what, where and why, these cases examined and then compensated and reconciled. This is not just for Sexual abuse cases but all cases that this corrupt leadership has created.

Then the community can move on with a new transparent and accountable leadership. Something that has not happened to date.

Even the thought of having an Australian Community that I and others are proud of, instead of ashamed of, is jolting.
