Three attempts to cross the border were made throughout the demonstrations.

The IDF responded with crowd control methods including tear gas and live ammunition when necessary.  According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, one demonstrator was killed and 14 more wounded throughout the incident, which spread along the entire Gaza border.

In response to the violent nature of the demonstrations, the Israeli Air Force attacked several Hamas posts along the Gaza border on Friday evening.

A statement released by the IDF read: “13,000 Gazan rioters amassed on Israel’s border, throwing grenades and explosives. There were 3 incidents of Gazans breaking through the border fence into Israel. Our soldiers stopped them before they could reach the homes of Israeli families who live minutes away,” adding that Hamas “actively seeks Israel’s destruction. When Hamas sends violent mobs from Gaza to Israel’s border, we don’t sit back and watch. If nobody stops the rioters, they’ll reach Israeli homes in minutes. The border is there for a reason. Don’t try to breach it.”
