I’ve followed it closely from the time it was first news in Melbourne and it’s more than time that the victims of this crime can see justice done. It’s shocking that the justice system in Israel allows itself to be manipulated. And as for the Hasidic Rabbis who support Malka Leifer, they don’t deserve to hold their positions, and by their example they put Judaism into disrepute.
Shoshanna Keats Jaskoll mentions facing a non-Jewish court as if it were a far-fetched thing, something to be avoided if at all possible, but not in this case due to harm done to Jewish children. One does not have to be Jewish to be a fine human being and one does not have to be Jewish to work with justice for humanity in mind. Australia has separation of state and religion in governance, as does Israel, which is a fine thing. However, I am more than concerned at the influence of the religious in Israel on Government and, in this case, the court process. It’s not a good sign at all for the future of Israel and its people. We don’t want the kind of fundamentalism that comes with religious dictators.
