Dayenu president Kim Gotlieb said: David Skapinker did an amazing job with his team to create a rainbow Magen David with a red carpet catwalk between which each of the drag divas worked with when their signature tunes came on in the party mix. Matt Blatt came forward with promotional monies as well as Emanuel Synagogue, who have always been amazing supporters of the LGBT+ Jewish community.”
Behind the float 40 marchers danced to a choreographed steps led by Anna Stern. The Jewish contingent represented a great mix of young and older, Jewish and non-Jewish, partners and singles….representing the diversity of queer Jewish Sydney.
President Kim Gotlieb added, “We march to celebrate the amazing progress that has taken place in these 40 years. And we march in anticipation of more conversations, more healing, more acceptance and more celebrations in the years ahead. Belonging to two marginal communities – Gay and Jewish, means  that we are always working to influence a broad range of views. Antisemitism is influencing the gay-friendly Green vote, and anti-gay sentiment remains installed within the Jewish liturgy. However, the Jewish LGBT+ community is resilient and strong, and knows how to party!”

It’s 18 years since Dayenu first participated in Mardi Gras. Mazal Tov indeed.

As one who believes in Jewish values, I find Gotlieb’s comment about “anti-gay sentiment….installed in Jewish liturgy”, to be as insulting as it is untrue and baseless. Another example of the homosexual community which is always seeking acceptance and tolerance showing total disrespect to their fellow Jews by equating them with the anti-Semitic Green party. I won’t hold my breath for an apology.
