Leifer proceedings expected to last until mid-year

A further hearing in the extradition case involving Malka Leifer facing 74 charges of child sexual abuse in Melbourne was held in a closed-door court in Israel yesterday.

The ongoing hearings determining her mental condition in being able to face the extradition proceeding with two psychiatrists telling an Israeli court that the former school principal is fit to be extradited.

Leifer fled from Melbourne in 2008 where she worked at the Adass Yisroel girls school.

The defence will present its case next Thursday.

Leifer’s lawyer Yehuda Fried told AAP: “It will not finish next Thursday, this will continue with other experts.I think this will go on until at least May or June this year.”

Malka Leifer remains is prison in Ramla.

    The time taken with all this in the courts has been a disgrace. This woman should have left for Australia long ago to face the allegations made and take the consequences.
