Jewish Care Victoria and The Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence (JTAFV) have reached an agreement regarding the JTAFV’s telephone support line.

JewishCareMne290LogoFrom now on, all telephone calls made to JTAFV for support, referrals and information regarding family violence will be diverted to professionally qualified social workers at Jewish Care.

This decision was made taking into account the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Family Violence of the importance of collaboration in providing optimum support in communities such as ours. It recognises the fact that
Jewish Care delivers a range of supports and services to individuals and families who have experienced family violence, including telephone support, and is committed to addressing the impact of family violence on the community.

JTAFV has a long history dedicated to raising awareness of the realities of family violence in the Jewish community. Although the confidential telephone support line will now be responded to by Jewish Care social workers, the organisation will continue to promote the issue of family violence by providing community education forums, community and governmental advocacy, Rabbinic training and awareness-raising events as well as working with other faith-based communities.

JTAFV“Both Jewish Care and The Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence have been supporting the community over many years with issues relating to family violence. We truly respect JTAFV’s proud history of providing a support line and are committed to continuing a high level, professional and responsive service to achieve the best outcome for our community,” Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said.

JTAFV Vice Chairperson Robyne Schwarz AM said: “The Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence has been a significant source of support for the Jewish community, particularly through its telephone support line, for many years. The JTAFV is a proven pioneer in the field of family violence in faith-based communities and in training its spiritual leaders. We believe Jewish Care will strengthen the provision of these resources even further.”

Jewish Care Manager Individual & Family Services Marilyn Kraner assures the community that Jewish Care will continue to deliver a supportive and confidential telephone response, alongside other services already provided to individuals and families.

“The community can be confident that the professional response of staff at Jewish Care – not only through the telephone service, but through all our other supports will continue to offer high quality of care to members of the community,” she added.

All calls to the JTAFV’s existing telephone support line number are now diverted to Jewish Care’s Front Door, and the specialist social workers from the Service Coordination team.

They also need to act to shut down organisations such as the Beth Dins that are doing family violence, but mental torture to Jewish families. This has been completely unaddressed by all Jewish organisations to date and it needs to stop. Ditto the Shules and Schools that also do this and are causing carnage in the community.
