2014 marked a distinct shift in the level of antisemitism around the world, and especially in Europe according to the annual report on Anti-Semitism presented to the Israeli cabinet today by the Minister for Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs, Naftali Bennett.

The report shows that radical Islam was the driving force behind antisemitism throughout Europe in 2014, especially over the summer, during Operation Protective Edge, where there was a 400% rise in antisemitic incidents than from the same period a year before.

“We continue to see deterioration around the world. The old antisemitism, spouting the familiar stereotype of a global Jewish conspiracy, is being increasingly coupled with the campaign to de-legitimize Israel “said Minister Bennett of the report. “It is radical Islam which is acting as the bridge for these two racist beliefs. They’ll use any perverted excuse to further their goal which is the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people”.

According to the report, antisemitic organizations were much more openly active throughout 2014. “Today, anti-Semites don’t need to hide, they can openly ‘sell their wares’ (in the public sphere) disguised as ‘legitimate criticism’ towards Israel” says the report.

France was marked as the most dangerous country for Jews today. Besides the slaughter of four Jews at the Kosher supermarket earlier this month, the number of antisemitic incidents doubled in 2014 as compared to 2013. Last year nearly 1000 antisemitic incidents were reported including assaults, many categorized as “extremely violent” as well as attacks on synagogues and other Jewish institutes.

The report also notes major increases in antisemitic incidents in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the U.K. and the former Soviet Union as well as increased anti-Israel activities on college campuses across the United States.

The annual report on antisemitism was presented to the Israeli government the same week the world marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This report begs the question…it’s clear that the vast majority of global protests are against Israel. To conflate this protest with racism, shows just how out of touch with reality right wing Zionists have become

Conflating racism against Jews with anti Israel sentiment, is the underlying reason why there’s a rapidly widening schism developing in global Jewry for the reasons explained in Norman Finkelstein’s recent scholarly book on why young American Jews are deserting Israel.

If ECAJ conducted a survey of younger Aussie Jews, the results would be the same…but I’m not holding my breath
