This is a most excellent article by Gidon Ben-Zvi and I thank J-Wire for publishing it. It is timely and, for me, gives a lot to reflect on insofar as the Israeli attitudes since October 7, for I have been rather at a loss to understand the general lack of more concerted support for continuing severe military action. I know we're fighting the whole world, but I also know that you cannot appease bullies if you wish to survive. I had always thought that sabras since WWII viewed themselves as 'different Jews' from those persecuted and murdered so effectively by the Nazis and their European collaborators. However, Gidon's discussion puts them back in the cycle of behaviour that was deemed necessary for survival throughout Diasporic times.

I feel shocked at the knowledge of Gidon Ben-Zvi's quick and early death. May his memory be a blessing. I am sure it will be. My heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. So sorry he has been taken from us so soon.
