Not sure on the accuracy of numbers, but I recall reading somewhere the Jews have been toing and froing in France since 1182 with the advent of the first recorded time 1227, ordered to wear a patch for identification.
Thankfully the latter no longer applies but the former appears to be still lurking in the background……..

Nothing has changed. Jews are simply, and have never been, welcomed in France or any other parts of Europe, for that matter. Now we have Israel, and even with that Europe still has a problem. The rejection of the terrorist truck attack in Nice as being like what Israelis experience on a regular basis, is another example of their attitude that, Jewish lives don’t matter. Unfortunately, there are many Jews who still think that they’re white.

I know that if I was a French Jew, I’d be leaving. The anti Semitism in France is just as palpable as it was decades ago, and I think that Jews who cling on to the hope that it will go away or won’t touch them are living in denial. There are now many beautiful Israeli cities and towns that have a rich French influence due to the Aliya of French Jews and it’s amazing to see how cities like Raanana have changed due to this Aliya. I say they should all go, go to a country that welcomes them and helps them to start over, and leave the French to contemplate the civil war that seems to be coming to them.

What is amazing is that the French ( and enlightened Europe) who glorify the ideals of the French Revolution, never ask themselves how Dreyfus, Shoah and Vichy could occur AFTER the revolution.

HI Ron, as a jew born in France in 1939 & leaving France in 1946 as child, I have always been grateful for the foresight of my parents for having courageously taken my sister and I away from the anti-semitism that was so prevalent in France then. Unfortunately Israel was blocked by the British. America would not fit us into its quota of Jews, but we were fortunate to be accepted by Australia.
Reading your excellent article on the situation of Jews in France today it reminds me of the French quote “plus ca change plus c’est la meme chose.” Regrettably Jews will never be fully safe in France and the sooner they come to that conclusion the better it will be for their children’s future as it has been for my sister and I.
