In reply to <a href="https://www.jwire.com.au/feintooner-195/#comment-618366">Robert Richter QC</a>.

With the greatest respect Mr Richter:

1.	The biblical “gift” which you disparage was acknowledged by all 51 member states of the League of Nations when giving recognition “to the historical connection of the Jewish People with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country”. That right was limited to just 22% of the territory comprised in the Mandate for Palestine that was located west of the Jordan River. That right has been preserved by article 80 of the United Nations Charter and is as valid today as it was in 1922.

2.	Israel is a “democratic Jewish State” in which all its citizens – 80% Jewish and 20% Arab - have the right to vote, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and an open and free press, travel on the same buses and shop, eat and work together in the same shopping centers. Your claim that Israel is an “apartheid State” (without any substantiation) is simply offensive.

3.	The “dispossessed people“ - to whom you refer - was created in 1964 for the first time in recorded history by the PLO Charter and claimed no regional sovereignty in “the West Bank of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan”. In 1922 that “people” was regarded as part of the “existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine”. That “dispossessed people” enjoyed Jordanian citizenship between 1950 and 1988.

Creating another State between Israel and Jordan – again for the first time in recorded history – has been offered on many occasions and rejected outright – the last time as recently as the 2020 Trump Peace Plan. I doubt a better offer will ever be on the negotiating table.

Reunification of the heavily-populated Arab areas of the West Bank with Jordan – as existed between 1950 and 1967 – is the key to peace. Two peoples – the Jews and Arabs – need two states – not three - in former Palestine.

Forget the propaganda and focus on the facts.

I keep an eye on what your publication means to people like me who grew up in Israel until my Bar Mizva and I despair at the propaganda war you are waging which encourages donations to organisations which are antithetical to any understanding between Israelis and those who seek to establish and perpetuate an Apartheid state because someone chose to write down a biblical "gift" undefined and of dubious in its origin. It's enough to turn a person who believes in the preservation of Israel as a democratic state into someone who daily sees it transforming into a theocracy in which a vocal minority of Torah wielding slogans seem to be able to sway the destiny of what could have been a "democratic jewish state" alongside a state which recognises the values of a dispossessed people having a state to call their own.
