I am Dutch and live in Queensland .For many years now I have had a deep love for Israel and its people. I my life I have had 4 special Jewish friends which all have past on now . I was born in 1938 in Rotterdam and left the Netherlands with my family in 1956. We had an uncle in Ketel ( little town just out of Rotterdam) . He was a medical practioner (arts) . The Germans came knocking on his door in 1942 and politely demanded his residence for army HQ . He told them that that was not a good thing to do because it would put the population against them , seeing he was an important person in that community .so they changed their mind and only wanted the top floor and they planed to put 6 officers for sleeping accommodation on the top floor. My uncle said what about the food ?, I cannot feed 6 grown men . They told him ,keine sorgen. There will be a food truck coming to your place every Friday and your housemaid that does the cooking for the officers can tell the driver what she needs. And that is what happened . Very soon the Germans started to round up the Jews . My uncle got very worried cause he had Jewish patients and he knew them as personal friends . So he decided to collect his Jewish patients and put them in his large continental cellar. They were there for about 3 years and my uncle and his wife fed those people with the food that the Germans brought every Friday. My uncle had several small children , I do not know if the children new about all this . The Germans never found out about the Jewish people. I am so proud of My Uncle Peter van der Kuy .
