Other religious Jews seem to have no problem teaching both general and Jewish education. Why are the Hasidic leaders the only ones to not allow any compromise? Blaming the NY Times for the situation in Brooklyn yeshivas is like blaming the Sydney Morning Herald for a certain school getting its accreditation revoked.

The child has not chosen to live on the fringe of society without literacy and maths skills that deny him the ability to make a living or even understand the workings of industry and society. These schools and the closeted community that forces children into a lifetime of poverty, servitude and ignorance are robbing children of any choice or personal freedom to make informed decisions about their own life opportunities, except to follow in their oppressed parents footsteps.
