David Jonathan Schneeweiss, known around the world as “DJ” has been working at the Israeli Foreign Ministry since 1994 following his position as secretary to the Director-General of the Health Ministry.

The former Moriah and Sydney High student made aliya in 1987 with a BA from Sydney University. He later attained his Masters degree in political science. It is not Schneeweiss’s first overseas posting. The career diplomat spent time in London as Press attache at the Israeli Embassy and was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Israeli Embassy in China. He also headed the media desk at the British Embassy in Israel before joining the Foreign Ministry.

The 46-yr-old diplomat is currently Director of Civil Society Affairs at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. His department monitors BDS activities around the globe.

DJ Schneeweiss, the son of Sydney community identities Dr Joachim and Sybil Schneeweiss,  will leave Jerusalem with his London-born wife Jo and six-yr-old twins Ben and Tali in August next year to take up his latest and most ambitious posting to date.

The Jewish population of Toronto is over 150,000. The Israeli Embassy is based in the Canadian capital, Ottowa, which has a Jewish population of approximately 13,000.
