Danby slams Max Brenner protesters
Federal Labor MP Michael Danby has lashed out at anti-Israel protesters who encouraged the boycotting of the Max Brenner Chocolate shop in inner Melbourne.
The city’s “Herald Sun” newspaper reported that nineteen protesters had been charged with offences relating to trespass, besetting premises and assaulting police.
The paper also reported that three policemen had been injured.
Following the incident on Friday, Danby said: “These people are prejudiced fanatics who should look into their soul, while 1500 people are murdered in Syria, they launch their own sad little attack on a chocolate shop because it also has stores in Israel.
Last month, the Max Brenner store in Westfield’s Parramatta shopping centre was targeted by anti-Israel protesters.
Nothing like bending the truth Mr Danby. Saying Max Brenner “also has stores in Israel” implies this is just a coincidence. MB is a subsidiary of a $1 billion dollar Israeli company – so big in Israel it’s classed as a monopoly supplier. It’s a successful Israeli business with international operations.
What I find frustrating about him trying to water down the truth is that I am against these protests. Just play a straight bat, lots of people are on the Israeli/Jewish side of this argument, don’t alienate us. See you at Max Brenners for chocolate kugel
Not one protester was charged with assault, that’s a lie. The protest was peaceful.
Unarmed protesters who are smart enough to grasp that the protest was anti-zionist, not anti-jewish, are (not suprisingly) also smart enough not try to assault fully armed riot police.
Max Brenner Chocolate is owned by the Strauss Group. Strauss boasts that it supports both the Golani and Givati (Shualei Shimshon) Brigades of the Israeli military. Both of these brigades were heavily involved in Israel’s 2008/2009 Gaza massacre, which killed more than 1300 Palestinians, the majority civilians, including 300 children.
This makes Max Brenner an appropriate target for non-violent direct action protest under the principles of the boycott apartheid Israel campaign.
I dare you not to delete these straightforward facts – go on suprise me 😉
Fair comment…but your issue is with Herald Sun…that’s how they reported it
Go to hell!! Why don’t you protest to hamas during this operation when they used this civilians and children as shields, Cowards!! You are nothing but antisemite hiding under protester of a just a business premises that is doing good for people and you are jealous! How about protest against the 12000 rockets so far shot at innocent civilians and children in Israel by Muslim terrorists Hamas in Gaza? You wouldn’t do that as they are Jewish and that’s yours problem, find something better to do like helping sick children in Australia.
Micahel Burd is right! There are no Palestinian chain stores Jews can protest outside – against what ? Palestinian barriers, settlememnts, tanks in Tel Aviv. colonisation ? And the report is pathetically dishonest. Peace Now in Israel has launched a BDS campaign of its own, and the BDS campaighn is supported by Jewish groups and individuals all ove the world.
ps. Two people were given Court Attendance Notices in relation to the Parramatta protest.
If you read the comments on blogs and online articles, you’ll see that this is actually doing Max Brenner’s business good.
People who had no idea of them previously, now say they will support them.!!
The Palestinian, Arab ,Muslim & Socialist activists would like to bring us all down to their level. The problem is there are no successful Palestinian owned Chain stores like Max Brenner that Jewish Zionists can protest outside ……..
Burdy.
