Liberal candidate Owen Guest was debating Danby in front of a Jewish audience at Beth Weizmann when he revealed that Danby had one How to Vote card for the are of his electorate which is home to many Jewish voters and another for the yuppy Albert Park area.

The debate, organised by the Australian Jewish News and Zionism Victoria hit the headlines recently when Greens candidate Steph Hodgins-May withdrew when she learned ZV was involved.

Michael Danby told J-Wire that voters would exercise their own choice as to who they vote for and how they allocate their preferences.

“My focus is on ensuring that the people of Melbourne Ports choose to vote for me to continue as their local Member, and to maximise the vote in Melbourne Ports for the Labor Party, to better assist the election of a Bill Shorten Labor Government,” Mr Danby said.

Mr Danby has worked hard to support this by representing the interests of Melbourne Ports, including his activism to save Fitzroy and Acland Streets, against the Grand Prix, to open up the Caulfield Racecourse for local sporting clubs and opposing the over-development of the Caulfield Village nearby; and his activism on national issues of concern to the electorate like animal welfare.

“I hope that on these local issues and on wider issues of health, education and infrastructure funding, voters will choose to re-elect me,” Danby said.

“The behaviour of the Green Party candidate in Ports this week in boycotting a Jewish community debate has made it impossible for many of my supporters to even symbolically give them a higher preference. The best solution is for voters to support the election of me and a Shorten Labor government and to allocate their preference order in accordance with their personal views,” Danby added.

Mr Danby’s supporters are assisting voters to allocate their preferences as they choose while at the same time ensuring they cast a valid vote.

I think we should leave Tenach out of this.
It doesn’t exactly approve of Mishkav Zachar, does it?

For MIchael Danby …instructions from the Tenach (Bible Old Testament)

“When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not wrong him. The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”

    Leviticus 19, Deuteronomy 10, Exodus 22, and Leviticus 25. Leviticus 19:33-34

But, alas, no hint of improving the plight of the refugees on Manus and Nauru….Most Jews, and many in the Melbourne Ports electorate were once impoverished and imprisoned “refos”! How can Jews, and their leaders be so utterly callous and ignore the plight of the refugees? Australia’s horrendous maltreatment of refugees is a blot on our nation….second only to our terrible genocide, occupation and suppression of our Indigenous Peoples.

Do unto others that which you would have them do unto you.

I/we would be so proud if Mr Danby led a positive change to our maltreatment of the refugees on Manus and Nauru. I have oft written to Danby along these line, but no response

Genuine refugees certainly. Economic refugees have to wait in line and go through valid channels. As more than 90% of the boat people are economic refugees you are not comparing apples with apples when you compare them to the Jewish refos who came to work and sustain themselves after the Holocaust. Furthermore 80% of the boat people are still on benefits 10 years after arriving in Australia. The boat people in Manus and Nauru are not mistreated but exist in better conditions than in their own countries.
They always have the option to return to their countries, the trip back fuuly paid by the taxpayer.
