The director of Chabad in Nepal has posted on his Facebook page the story of “a young Australian Jewess” who lost her life when her car was swept into a river in a remote part of the country where the locals may burn her body.

Arutz Sheva reports: “The director of Nepal’s Chabad House, Rabbi Hezki Lifshitz, told people through his Facebook page this morning (Wednesday) of the race against the clock that is being run to prevent the burning of the corpse of Jewish Australian tourist who had suddenly died.

A young Australian Jewess was tragically killed following torrential rains when her car was swept into a river.  Staff from the Chabad House is working around the clock to prevent the burning of her corpse, as is the local custom for disposal in that part of the world.

Burial, and not cremation, is what is demanded by Jewish law.”

Rabbis Chezki Lifshitz’s Facebook page states in Hebrew: “עצוב לפתוח את הבוקר עם בשורה כזו. ”

The Bing translation reads: “Sad to open this morning with this line. Young Jewish community in Australia just wanted to explore and enjoy in Nepal road accident and found herself swept into the river by rain temperatures control. Her body is far more than three hours ‘ drive away in Chitwan & Pokhara. After George was driving as fast as possible to bring Israel to the Tomb. Good news everyone!!”

J-Wire has asked Foreign Minister Julie Bishop’s office if they can furnish any further information.

At this time, the identity of the victim remains unknown but J-Wire understands she lived in Melbourne.
