NSW Labor frontbencher and NSW Parliamentary Friends of Israel deputy chair, Walt Secord today paid tribute to the efforts of the NSW Labor Israel Action Committee (LIAC) saying that they fought to have “one of the most balanced foreign affairs reports” from the NSW Labor party in recent years.

Mr Secord who is also patron of LIAC was responding to the “Australia and the World” report in the official ALP conference book, chaired by ALP foreign affairs committee chair and former Federal Senator Michael Forshaw.

“By far this is one of the most balanced approach, we have seen in years — but this was due to the hard work of a large number of committed activists who support a two-State solution,” Mr Secord said.

“The LIAC group wants to see a safe and secure Israel alongside a democratic Palestinian State.”

The NSW ALP conference will take place on June 30 and July 1. It will bring together about 800 delegates.

Mr Secord said there were 44 motions on foreign relations.  In total, there were only six motions relating to Israel and only two were critical from far-Left branches.

“This was in stark contrast to previous years.”

“I also want to pay tribute to the SDA (Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association) union, LIAC and ALP foreign affairs committee chair and former Federal Senator Michael Forshaw for their tireless efforts.”

“Make no mistake, this is due to the hard work and efforts of those who support Israel within the NSW Labor Party taking a principled stand.”

This year’s policy book was wide-ranging and deals with Korea, nuclear arms, Cyprus, the Armenian genocide, Iran, the Philippines, human rights in China, Burma and Vietnam as well as Syria, the Kurds, ISIS and Hezbollah in Lebanon.”

“It was re-assuring to see motions calling for a `just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians’ rather than hostile empty rhetoric against Israel.”

Full credit to Messrs Secord, Forshaw et al.

    However:
    1. how do they rate the probability that any Arab ‘Palestinian’ state would be democratic? Surely they are not serious.
    2. the ALP still harbours people who are absolutely unhinged, unbalanced, malevolent when it comes to Israel. That is an outrage of Corbynesque proportions.
