The first concert in the SSO Masters Series for 2019 (now sponsored by upmarket travel company Abercrombie & Kent) presented significant works by Janacek and Bartok, book-ending the Australian premiere of a piece by Steve Reich that had been co-commissioned by several orchestras, including the SSO.

Last night’s APT Master Series programme threw the orchestral gauntlet down to the SSO – and it delivered in spades, producing everything from passionate storms to gentle rain to exotic and erotic scenery. This orchestra was made for this music.

Great concert for the Great

Sydney’s The Great Synagogue, with its unique acoustics and history going back to 1875, will change its role briefly on 1st April for a special classical music concert. The Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra will play an unusual program of music linked to Jewish composers.
