An Israeli food technologist who holds Australian citizenship has been found guilty  of causing the deaths of three babies resulting from the omission of Vitamin B1 in the milk formula produced by the company for which he worked.

Frederick Black was one of three members of Israeli company Remedia who imported the formula from German company Humana Milchunion. The court in Petah Tikva was told that the babies died in 2003 as a result of drinking the milk without vitamin B which is essential to the nervous system. Twenty other babies were also seriously affected.

Black was found guilty of causing death through negligence and of actions liable to cause disease.

Black had been employed by the company despite having had no professional training in the baby food business.

Another child died seven years later as a result of  consuming the milk as a baby.

Two directors of the company had faced similar charges but were acquitted although one was found guilty of not upholding standards.

Five employees at Israel’s health ministry who had been responsible for allowing the importation of the formula were sentenced to up to 500 hours of community service in 2011.

Black will be sentenced later this month.

I am writing from Israel and can tell you that whoever wrote this article is seriously wrong about many of the facts. Yes a food technologist who worked for Remedia was convicted in the case of several baby deaths and many others babys were seriously affected but other facts are totally wrong. Check other sources and see for yourselves. Jwire’s reputation is damaged by this type of shoddy reporting.
