I finally got round to listening to Nick’s earlier debate with BDS advocate Peter Slezak on ABC Radio which was replayed today – Nick clearly won the debate hands down by emphasizing the need to move past both the Greater Palestine and Greater Israel agendas to find some half-way compromise. Peter Slezak in contrast stuck to his black and white Collingwood vs Carlton view of the conflict, and made a number of totally inaccurate claims – that the BDS movement does not attack individuals (he must have missed the boycott of Dan Avnon), that the peace process is a fraud solely because Israeli Governments have moved to the Right (he must have missed the four years of Palestinian suicide bombings), and that the Right of Return is enshrined in international law (he must be unaware that this was a non-binding UN Resolution conditional on the Palestinians and Arab states accepting Israel and negotiating peace in 1948 which is 67 years ago). Just as I got totally irritated with conservative Jews telling me prior to 1993 and some even up to today that Israel is perfect and the Palestinians are totally to blame so I get totally fed up with pro-Palestinian lobbyists claiming the Palestinians have no agency. By giving sanctuary to Lynch’s propaganda / advocacy institute, The University of Sydney has made itself an accomplice of the global movement for the denial to the Jewish nation of the basic human right of self-determination.
That university deserves not a single cent of donations or bequests.

Some of Israel’s former Australian “friends”-turned-enemies disingenuously express “fears” for Israel’s supposed slide away from democracy as a rationalisation for their duplicity and perfidy; these people themselves, when they were in government, maintained cordial, profitable relations with some of the most anti-democratic, tyrannical, cruel regimes in the world.
Having lost government in Australia, some of them now serve these regimes in other capacities.
Incidentally, there is no such thing as “Greater Israel.” It is as much a bullying and propaganda term as “apartheid.” In 1967, when Israeli forces responded to Jordanian shelling of Israel, they did not cross an international border into any other state’s sovereign territory. They crossed an armistice line into territory that had illegally been occupied by Jordan since 1948. Jordanian and “Palestinian” forces had ethnically cleansed the Jewish majority out of Old Jerusalem and out of Judea and Samaria during the War of Independence.
Both Old Jerusalem and the rest of Judea and Samaria are an integral part of the Jewish National Home, as of right and according to international law.
