You are absolutely right, Shirlee.

It is interesting that Australia’s official history of World War One,( when Australian soldiers fought the Turks in The Land of Israel), Jewish geographical place names are used throughout. You won’t find any “west bank” there, but you will find Judaea and a myriad authentic, Hebrew/Jewish place names.
But some Jews unintentionally / negligently slip into non-Jewish nomenclature, which is a propaganda weapon of Israel’s enemies.

I quess she’s taking on what will sell; to hell with the wider picture.
I’m just astounded how ignorant so many are, even in general conversation. Just recently I mentioned the Vatican sitting on the sidelines waiting to pounce on the Temple Mount issue playing one against the other as in the past and they didn’t know what I was talking about.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the SMH has form when it comes to delivering backhanders to Israel by way of “travel” writing. In March this year it published another such, supposedly about Jordan. I was disappointed that the author, Julie Szego (who I believe is Jewish), spent much of the article quoting the irrelevant (in a travel piece) and untestable anti-Israel allegations of the driver, a Palestinian (www.traveller.com.au/jordan-a-country-on-the-move-13si8p).

Even though Hall is a film critic, if she is going to write about a contentious political situation, one might have hoped she’d bring some semblance of impartiality to her article. Journalists these days seem to think they’ve satisfied this requirement by interviewing a Jewish settler, however extreme and unrepresentative his or her views might be.

Is there another country that gets this sort of treatment in the Herald’s travel pages?

How can we possibly win the war of words, when Peter Wertheim, who is the CEO of the ECAJ and who supposedly has some authority, uses terms like “the West Bank”

If he just MUST use the term West Bank, then he should say it as it is THE WEST BANK OF JORDAN

Excellent intellectual and fair.

Has this critique of Hall’s travel propaganda been sent to the SMH?

And while Peter Wertheim may not object to a person’s opinion piece trying to convince readers, I object when the person trying to convince uses lies. I am all for free speech, provided it is based on truth. I know that I am old-fashioned, but I know that truth exists and any old narrative one chooses must not be treated as the truth.

Maybe she thinks that her experience in that area of fiction equips her to spin fictional creations of her own with the help of Pallywood personnel.

Yet one more (media) attempt to sensationalize, dramatize, besmirch and tarnish. We had four weekend papers delivered to our home and NOT ONE had a balanced, truthful, reliable, fair, accurate or unbiased HEADLINE STRAP on ANY of the articles on Israel and the Middle East conflicts of the past few days. I, for one, am tired of reading distorted and manipulated information and the disgraceful and anti-Semitic spread of inaccuracies.
Journalists are paid to research and investigate. They are duty bound to present historically accurate facts. Why is it that the author of this J-Wire article has to waste his precious time “interpreting” the work of an ignoramus so that the populace doesn’t go off have cocked? It’s not just the journalists who are not doing their job either. Shame on the editorial staff at these major newspapers. Antisemitism comes in many guises. This is just one more. Much more accountability is needed and necessary. Soon.
