An Honorary Cardiologist at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital is also an artist…and an exhibition of his work has opened within the hospital.

Assoc Prof Diane Fatkin and Dennis Kuchar

Dennis Kuchar is a winner of the Oil Prize in the Waverley Art Competition.  His exhibition at he St Vincent’s is entitled “Darlo, Paddo & the Beach” and is hanging until Feb 3 with all works for sale and  proceeds going to the “Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute”.

Chava Kuchar, Kuchar’s daughter-in-law and artist in her own right, introduced the artist and an opening address was made by guest speaker Professor Bob Graham AO, the Executive Director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. Prof Graham outlined the vital work of the Institute which focuses  research in heart disease, molecular cardiology and cardiac transplantation. One major focus of  research, he explained, is addressing the lengthening of the time of preservation of the donor heart before implantation. The Institute was set up in 1994 in memory of the outstanding contribution made to the hospital and general community by Dr Victor Chang who was brutally murdered 20 years ago. Prof Graham  expressed gratitude for the donation of funds raised in sales of the artworks to the Research Institute, and underlined the importance of community support to aid the continuing work of the Institute.

Kucher has been an honorary cardiologist for over 20 years at St Vincent’s

What a lovely story of a well-rounded man. Is the Exhibition visible on internet by any chance for those who can’t make it in person?
