Young Board for Kehillat Masada
The leadership team at Kehillat Masada Synagogue in St. Ives, Sydney, has undergone dynamic development.
For the first time in its history the newly elected 12 person Board of Management includes five members under the age of forty and three women including a female vice President.
The Synagogue also has an incredibly dynamic young Rabbinic staff (also all under 40 years of age) with Senior Rabbi Gad Krebs at the helm, Rabbi Evan Widmonte the Youth Rabbi, and Rebbeztin Cara Widmonte looking after programming for Woman.
The last two months have seen a range of incredibly successful events including a sold out Challah Baking evening attended by over 230 women, a young families Shabbat dinner with over 200 attending, a whiskey tasting evening for men, as well as regular lectures, shiurim, and a popular mothers and babies group that runs every Friday morning.
Incoming President Howard Sher said “it is wonderful to see the dozens of young families who attend our weekly young family Shabbat service and to see the number of children running around each week on the campus”. Rabbi Gad Krebs commented that “the positive and welcoming atmosphere around our Kehillah at the moment is palpable. From celebrating Shabbat to commemorating tragedies in Israel our community is involved and active”.
Kehillat Masada has also launched attractive membership packages for young families and has a large number of programs available for members of all ages.
Kehillat Masada has 4 different services on its campus every Friday night including the independent Ohr Hatzafon Minyan catering to the more observant young families. Rabbi Krebs continued: “Our objective is multiple portals of entry for the community. Some people are not interested in traditional services and education models. Our aim is to offer something attractive to people of all ages and backgrounds no matter what their level of religious observance. We are working very hard to ensure the relevance of Kehillat Masada for the future”
