The new Committee of Management at Melbourne’s Yeshivah Centre has written to its community and supporters calling for any victim of child sexual abuse to make contact with the police.

Yeshivah-logoIn a letter to “parents, Yeshivah community members, friends and supporters”, the committee has issued a report card of its post-formation activities which have included meetings all constituent members of the Centre to gain insight into the problems needing to be addressed.

In the letter, the CoM wrote: “As a priority, we have been focused on developing best practice for addressing past victims of child sexual abuse. The CoM are looking to establish an independently operated multi-faceted redress scheme and have been in consultation with relevant experts to achieve this. If you, or anyone you know, has been the victim of child sexual abuse you should immediately go directly to the police (contact the Moorabbin SOCIT unit on 9556- 6124).”

The committee has met with the CSG to address the safety of children and expect “to enhance security measures” within the coming weeks.

Financial and rabbinical issues are also under review.
