A Sydney rabbi has been named in an ABC report on drivers who have dodged the NSW traffic penalty system.

Rabbi Yosef Feldman

The report claims that Rabbi Yossi Feldman had submitted 44 statutory declarations nominating drivers with overseas licences as being responsible for speeding, red light camera and parking fines resulting in $5,255 in fines being written off.

He had been a director of the Yeshiva Centre in Bondi at the time of those infringements between 2002 and 2013 investigated by the ABC

The ABC report mentions several  drivers but names only Justice Marcus Einfeld and Rabbi Yossi Feldman and reports the offences included speeding, red light cameras and parking. The ABC reports that overseas drivers nominated in some instance were not in the country at the time of the offence or “simply did not exist”.

Rabbi Feldman has denied that there was any wrongdoing.

He told J-Wire: “The Yeshiva purchased cheap cars and had 10-15 at any given time. We usually had up to 50 overseas rabbinical  students in residence at the Yeshiva and although we knew who was in charge of a car, we often had no idea who was driving it at the time an offence was committed.”

The Sydney Talmudic College Association went to court many times to challenge tickets on the grounds that we did not know who the drivers were and were let off by the RTA over the years to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.”

He told the ABC that all those nominated in statutory declarations were contactable and that anyone suggesting fraud “is simply wrong”.
