Nadia Murad Basee Taha is a Yazidi woman from northern Iraq who was captured by Daesh (or ISIS) in mid-2014 will tell a seminar at Sydney University how she escaped.

Flyer - Nadia Murad event 22 August.pdf (page 1 of 2) 2016-08-18 21-10-31After three months held captive as a sex-slave, she escaped and made her way to a refugee camp and eventual freedom in the West. Her escape became news because she was one of the few Yazidi women to get out of Daesh captivity, and one of the fewer still who have found a voice to tell the world of the horrors perpetrated against women and girls as part of ISIS’s genocide against Yazidis.

The Australian Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, University of Sydney’s Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies and various community organisations are co-hosting this public seminar, and we strongly encourage all who are interested to attend.

Date: Monday, 22 August 2016
Time: 5:30 – 7:00PM
Venue: General Lecture Theatre N205, Main Quad, The University of Sydney. (Entrance via. Clock Tower).
