Wolper announces community grants
A new President and Life Governor were appointed and community grants announced at the Annual General Meeting of Sydney’s Wolper Jewish Hospital.

Daniel Goulburn was elected Wolper’s sixth President after serving as Honorary Treasurer for five years, and continues as Chairman of the Wolper Jewish Hospital Health Foundation.
David Golovsky retires as President having served the maximum five-year term and assumes the role of Immediate Past President.
Daniel Goulburn congratulated Dr Golovsky on his very successful term as President stating that “David has been an outstanding leader, working tirelessly to enhance the reputation of the Hospital whilst ensuring that it never lost sight of its place in the community, its history and our values”.
In his final act as President, Golovsky proposed the appointment of Graham Einfeld – the current Immediate Past President – as Wolper’s second Life Governor.

Golovsky told the meeting that “Graham Einfeld has devoted 40 years of honorary work to the Jewish Community, specifically in the areas of sport, education and health.”
He added: “Under Graham’s outstanding leadership, Wolper’s strategic direction responded to the changing needs of the community. He was instrumental in establishing a state-of-the art physiotherapy gym catering for rehabilitation inpatients and day patients and an enlarged hydrotherapy pool “.
In his final President’s report Golovsky announced that Wolper continues to run at close-to-capacity and the Hospital’s continued support of community programs offering grants of up to $20,000 to the Community Genetics Program, Gift of Life Australia, the Hatzolah First Response ambulance, the MUM FOR MUM (NCJW) project of NCJW (NSW), Camp Sababa and the Jewish Alliance Against Family Violence.
As outgoing Honorary Treasurer, Goulburn confirmed that “Wolper once again achieved a break-even trading result but generated an overall surplus of approximately $1million.”
This surplus together with accumulated funds, allowed the Hospital to create the Wolper Jewish Hospital Health Foundation with seed funding of $3million. The Foundation’s mission is to sponsor, support and fund health and wellbeing initiatives that deliver clear benefits to the Jewish and general communities.
The first round of Foundation grant recipients were also announced.
Camp Sababa & Sababa Lagamba – support for nursing services and medical supplies at their camps for children and young adults with disabilities
Gift of Life Australia – raising awareness of the Stem Cell and Bone Marrow Donor Registry, collecting blood samples from potential donors of Jewish and ethnic minority descent.
Hereditary Cancer Clinic – raising awareness of the importance of community BRCA testing, including the development of web site content.
Jewish House – extending their comprehensive range of serviced to include professional health services, such as clinical psychology
NSW Friendship Circle – support for the Sunday Circle which organises teenage volunteers to engage with children with disabilities.
Parkinson’s NSW Inc – expanding access to the Parkinson’s Counselling Service in the Eastern Suburbs.
