President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald S. Lauder said he is “cautiously optimistic” regarding UNESCO’s postponement of resolutions dealing with Israel and, in particular, Jerusalem.

Earlier today in Paris, UNESCO’s executive board unanimously adopted two draft decisions that postpone voting on two anti-Israel resolutions. The first of these downplays Jewish religious and historical links to Jerusalem, and the second relates to Palestinian cultural and educational institutions.

Lauder said: “Today’s development shows that UNESCO members can turn away from the organisation’s long-expressed hostility toward Israel. I am cautiously optimistic that these decisions might lead to a further determination that UNESCO should be even-handed rather than one-sided when it comes to Israel and the Middle East. I hope that today’s consensus will prove to be more than a temporary change in attitude, but might herald a new cooperative spirit at UNESCO. It is critical that all the parties involved will build on the consensus achieved today to take steps to address the politicization of this important U.N. body, so that it may focus on its core mandate. Draft decisions seeking to rewrite history or that question Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem have no place at UNESCO.”

Lauder also expressed his heartfelt thanks to outgoing UNESCO Executive Board Chair Michael Worbs for his efforts towards this diplomatic outcome. “I am grateful to Mr. Worbs for demonstrating that consensus can be achieved at UNESCO,” he said.

Israel & US have withdrawn from UNESCO

They have lost the plot and have become Historical Revisionists that must be disbanded!
Any organization that was based on “Doing Good” to be concentrating on mostly Israel bashing with LIES should not be allowed to exist.
