B’nai B’rith in Sydney has re-published a book designed to counter racism and discrimination to be distributed to more than 5000 schools in NSW.

Ernie Friedlander, the president of the Alfred Dreyfus anti-Defamation Unit told the audience in the NSW Parliament building welcomed seven students from Punchbowl School. He said: “We cannot afford to be complacent. We need to have an ongoing commitment to stifle any type of stereotype generalisation.” He said that Australia was a fair-minded country and that discrimination was rare…but still had to be overcome.
The book was first published in 1988,,but changes in the community since then had created the need for an update. Friedlander said that the multi-cultural unit of the Department of Education had proved a significant help in guiding the revision of the material.
The book was launched by Stephan Kerkyasharian who leads the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW. This handbook embodies what we strive for..it stands as an example of the outcome of work The book will enrich the lives of many children and serves as an example of communities working with government.
Andrew Havas, preisent of the Bnai B’rith’s Courage to Care initiative told J-Wire the book would be distributed to over 5000 schools in the State.
