What’s all the Fuss About?

The NSW Board of Jewish Education (BJE) has spent considerable time and energy rebranding and creating an awareness campaign. Why? Whats all the fuss about?

Rachele Schonberger, Co-CEO says “After four years of curriculum rewriting and five years of running successful Israel programs as well as building fruitful relationships with other communal organisations such as the Jewish Day Schools and the Sydney Jewish Museum, the time was right to let the NSW Jewish community know”

Our new workbooks

The BJE has decided to drop the name Academy because according to Schonberger “the word Academy did not reflect BJE’s services for public school students.” It was at this time that a search began to rename the programs in order to tie them all together. “Every program that BJE offered was named with an acronym, they did not link which meant that our parents and students did not realise the vast scope of Jewish education BJE delivers” says Schonberger. BJE has settled on the name Emet, the Hebrew word meaning truth. All programs, from now on, will have the word Emet in its title which will make it easier for parents and students to identify what BJE delivers to the Community. The core work, being the half hour of Jewish religious education, will be called Emet and and other programs will be based from this. So Emet Extension refers to Supplementary Jewish Education, Emet Traditions incorporates Jewish studies and Hebrew and so on. “It seems to makes so much sense” says Schonberger.

Students can now look forward to all curriculum books being in colour, which will be more appealing. BJE looks forward to biding farewell to 35 Emet Israel students as they commence their communal involvement with a program in Israel. “It is really exciting to be part of this wonderful organisation. We are so keen to let the community know of who BJE is and what BJE does that there are now over 550 Friends in the NSW BJE Facebook page, and that’s only after two weeks!” exclaims Schonberger.
