UIA honors its canvassers and a former CEO
The Victorian United Israel Appeal’s 2010 Canvassers’ End of Campaign Dinner and Farewell to Miriam Suss was held in Melbourne this week.

The 100 UIA volunteers who attended the dinner at Kimberley Gardens heard The Australian’s foreign editor Greg Sheridan speak on his chosen topic: “Why I love Israel.” Sheridan spoke with much fondness about his recent trips to Israel where he noted how inspiring it was to see a Middle Eastern country that upholds the ideals of liberty, democracy and freedom for all her citizens. His address was both entertaining and informative and reconfirmed his support for the State of Israel.
The evening also paid tribute to Miriam Suss, who served as UIA CEO for 8 years. Old colleagues and friends of her, Laurence Joseph and Mark Blankfield spoke fondly about Miriam and their time working with her. UIA presented her with a certificate and a scholarship to an Oleh student will be given in her name.
18 year old King David student, Itai Avisar sang Yachad and Mitachat Lashamayim which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
UIA extends a big thank you to all its volunteers who have worked tirelessly for the 2010 campaign. Their dedication in undertaking both face-to-face and phone canvassing is a testament to our strong Victorian Jewish community.
