UIA award for Julian

The Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal (KH-UIA) Annual World Conference in Jerusalem was a particularly special event for UIA Victoria Treasurer Julian Black who received the Yakir Award for his decades of service to the UIA.

The KH-UIA Yakir Award is given to leaders within the organisation in recognition of their commitment and volunteerism, as well as to those who have distinguished themselves by their contribution towards promoting the aims and goals of the organisation both in Israel and throughout the Jewish world.

Julian became involved with the UIA in 1979 and worked as a canvasser until 1988. Since 1998, he was worked as the Treasurer for UIA Victoria and since 2005, as the Federal Treasurer.  In 2005, he was recognised with an Askan Award. He is a member of the Executive where he supervises the financial staff and works in fundraising.

Other Victorians who have received the Yakir Award include John Shalit OAM (1998), Max Shnider z”l (2000), Mark Leibler AC (2001), Jack Smorgon AO (2007) and Roslyn Smorgon z”l (2008).

A UIA spokesperson said: “It was a wonderful evening full of ruach and ahavat Israel and the start to a memorable week of celebrations for the State of Israel, especially for the 1,500 participants  from around the world who convened in Israel for various UIA missions in celebration of Israel’s 70th birthday.”
