The three new affiliates are Jewish Community Arts and Media (JCAM), Jewish Ecological Coalition (JECO) and Melbourne Hebrew Ladies Benevolent Society (MHLBS) JCAM is an umbrella organisation that was founded in June 2011. Its stated aim is “to support, develop and promote community groups and individuals interested in communication about Jewish life and culture through the radio, TV, the internet, film and theatre media”.

JECO is devoted to deepening the Jewish community’s commitment to caring for the earth. Both individuals and organisations may apply to be members of the coalition.

MHLBS is one of Victoria’s oldest Jewish organisations, having been founded in 1857. Its committee comprises volunteers who give their time and support “to the many families who require assistance and ongoing support by way of food vouchers, school uniforms, camp fees and basic necessities”.

Delegates to the Plenum voted unanimously to include each of the three organisations. JCCV President Nina Bassat AM said, “We are delighted to be able to welcome these three organisations to the JCCV family. Each provides an important service to the community and we look forward to supporting them in their endeavours”. She added that “as the Voice of Victorian Jewry, the JCCV encourages other Jewish organisations to come under our umbrella so that together we can create a strong and vibrant community for the benefit of all”. With the addition of these three organisations, the JCCV now has 64 affiliates.
