The Executive Council of Australian Jewry has issued a statement following the bombing of a bus carrying Israeli tourists in Bulgaria…From President Dr Danny Lamm and executive director Peter Wertheim:

“Once again Israel’s enemies have revealed their murderous nature to a horrified world. The bombing of an Israeli tourist bus in Bulgaria on Wednesday night in which innocent civilians were deliberately targeted, killed and wounded is an inexcusable atrocity. The criminal regime in Iran is the prime suspect for this outrage. In the past few months Iran has targeted Israelis in Thailand, India, Georgia and Cyprus. Further, the attack occurred on the 18th anniversary of the terrorist bombing of the AMIA Jewish centre in Buenos Aires that left 85 people dead, a crime for which Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah, has been indicted. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed, and those injured. At this difficult time, Australian Jews are proud to stand in solidarity with Israel and her people.”

A spokesperson for Prime Minister Julia Gillard told J-Wire: “The Australian Government condemns this terrorist attack at Burgas Airport in Bulgaria. Such attacks on innocent civilians are reprehensible in the extreme. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those killed in the attack, with the injured, and with the people of Israel and Bulgaria.”

A spokesman for the Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Bob Carr told J-Wire: “The Australian Government condemns this terrorist attack at Burgas Airport in Bulgaria.

Such attacks on innocent civilians are reprehensible in the extreme.

Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those killed in the attack, with the injured, and with the people of Israel and Bulgaria.”

Philip Chester, President of the Zionist Federation of Australia added: “The ZFA condemns the terror attack perpetrated on Israeli tourists in the airport at Burgas, Bulgaria, in which 7 were killed and over 30 injured.

The attack coincides with the18th anniversary of the Iran-sponsored terrorist attack on the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, where 87 people were killed and over 100 injured. It is a tragic reality that Israel and Jews around the world must be ever vigilant against global terror. This attack also underscores the threat posed by the Iranian regime, and reminds us that such terror is a threat to all democratic, peaceful nations.

We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and wishes for a full recovery to those who have been injured by this atrocious attack.”
