Male students at Melbourne’s Bialik College are sporting smart new kippot, each one taking fours hours to make.
Hand-made by women in the small community of San Marcos in Guatemala, the kippot sport Bialik’s iconic logo.
With the help of Mayaworks, Bialik is proud to be contributing to a social venture that empowers indigenous women of Guatemala to achieve economic security by generating a steady and sustainable income for themselves and their families. By providing markets with their handcrafted products, these artisans are paid a fair wage and receive additional benefits. These benefits include literacy trainings, eye exams and eyeglass donations, skills and leadership trainings, low-interest microloans as well as scholarships for artisans’ daughters to attend school.
The fairtrade kippot can be purchased either at the Shuk oronline via Flexischools (under the lunch menu) for $18.
