Coogee Synagogue

Coogee War Memorial Or Hadash was founded on our current site in 1960 by a group of Holocaust survivors who left devasted lives in post war Europe to seek a new beginning Australia. They had over the previous 8 years created a small Kehillah who worshipped together in a garage using a Sefer Torah borrowed from The Great Synagogue. At the time there were large number of young Jewish families living close by who banded together to form the nidus of what Coogee Synagogue was to become. Today we have a membership of over 300 people. On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur it can be standing room only despite an extensive renovation which increased the seat capacity being completed in 2005.
