The Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at Sydney University has stuck by its boycott of Israel policy by refusing to comply with a request for help from a civics teacher at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem…the creator of a program for Israeli-Arab children.

Associate Professor Jake Lynch

Dan Avnon

According the “The Australian” newspaper, Israeli academic Dan Avnon approached Jake Lynch at the centre in the hope of taking advantage of a fellowship agreement in play between the two institutions.

Professor Avnon requested a meeting with Associate Professor Lynch to discuss  research in civics in Australia but, according to “The Australian”   Lynch said that although Avnon’s work “sounds interesting and worthwhile”  he supported BDS including the “boycott of  Israeli universities”.

The Australian reported that Lynch was not available for comment and that a university spokesperson said that “on this particular matter he does not speak for the school, the faculty or for the university”.

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies chief executive officer Vic Alhadeff commented: “It is self evident that Associate Professor Lynch brings a closed mind to the issue, where he is willing to punish Arab children if the alternative means supporting an Israeli program. Even a civics program. It is difficult to see how the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies can credibly include the word ‘peace’ in its name when it cannot bring itself to work towards it.”

What blatant and utterly shameful anti-Semitism! But I’m not surprised.

As a mere “conservative” you are persona non grata at Sydney University (remember the disgraceful persecution of Dame Leonie Kramer?), but if you are Jewish AND conservative (or “extreeeeeme right wing” as the left-populists call conservatives) I wish you “good luck” you will need it.

As to the anti-Semitic BDS this supposed custodian of intellectual freedom is indulging in: it’s nothing short of Book-Burning. I highly recommend “The World Turned Upside Down” by Melanie Phillips.

PS: dont include that university in your will.

    Michael,
If you are the rare burd I reckon you are, Rita is, as usual right , but I also reckon that you noticed my tongue well attached to my cheek
O course you are right about those academics anxious to create something not yet tested ( they reckon) i.e. ” can I be highly intellectual while being lowly rational.”
My refference was to those Jewish academics who are doing pretty well – thank you – out of the very Jewish community they have abandoned, as you so pertinently pointed ot.
I wont mention names simply because this site wont allow me, but a couple of them are writing and printing their musings even as we print ours. There are also one or two right up there in the leadership of our community. Some do get commissions from the same community to carry out studies, some do avail themselves of grants and scholarships from devout Zionist sources, some anjoy the welcoming fraternity of the very Hebrew University the have failed to protect right here right now, as you said.
Having said that – which is only a part of what I would have – I suggest that the best way to address them will be to come out with a formal statement telling those who have failed us on this occasion that we do not need their services untill they have proven that we…… need their services.

If Otto was being ironic, or even sarcastic excuse me for misunderstanding his humor, I did think it was an odd comment from him going on his past posts.

‘That should read Arab financed ‘

  6. michael says:

Otto, it takes 5 minutes to write a letter to al’ age or the OZ to express outrage at the ongoing ant-Semitic war the so called crab financed Sydney peace Foundation’s Jake Lnych has been waging under the guise of Anti Israel
That is if the Jewish academics cared enough and judging by their obvious silence they certainly couldn’t give a shit. There must be hundreds of Jewish academics not one of them has bothered to publicly show any concern.
What is disgraceful is these so very busy Jewish academics always have time to write in or sign petitions and declarations condemning israel for self defense against the Arab aggressors.
Is it any wonder the Palestinians are winning the PR war here.

The silence over this outrage from Jewish Academics and Jewish Academia is deafening !

Not only them Michael, as we well know

      Michael

That’s terrible, you are not fair at all !!!
I am sure our Jewish academics have got better things to do and are busy right now applying for a grant or scholarship from JCA or the very same Hebrew University.
