The Sydney Symphony Orchestra presented their Fantastique program under the baton of Israeli conductor Pinchas Steinberg.

The orchestra handled the works of Franck, Ravel and Berlioz with amazing precision met rapturous applause by the Sydney Opera House audience.

Cesar Franck’s Le Chasseur maudit (The Accursed Huntsman) opened the program with the symphonic poem building up to a frenetic pace at which the orchestra played as one.

Canadian pianist Louis Lortie played the Ravel Piano Concerto in G. Once again, lightning pace and liquid smoothness dominated the performance.

The program concluded with Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique in a performance where the quality of the orchestra’s outstanding work could be measured by the more than enthusiastic response from the audience.

Steinberg will conduct two more performances of the same program.
