Sydney’s Prince of Wales Private hospital has released a list of its services on offer to Jewish patients.

CEO of The Jewish House, Rabbi Mendel Kastel, will attach a mezzuzah in the hospital next month

The Prince of Wales Private Hospital is proud to offer the following services for Jewish clients. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us on the details listed below.

  • Chaplaincy / Pastoral care
  • • Full Kosher Menu to chose from including deserts available
  • • Kosher snacks available in the vending machines throughout the POWP
  • • Link with Jewish House for counselling and follow up services
  • • Rabbi on call
  • • Regular (confidential) Rabbi visits
  • • A number of Jewish doctors with an understanding of Jewish sensitivities as well as referrals made to Wolper Hospital by Doctors for respite care
  • • Mezuzah at Bookings and Admission Centre
  • • Prayer request line where prayer requests may be left
  • • Library – located  in the Maternity Unit
  • • Opportunity for Prayer

Majority of rooms at Prince of Wales Private Hospital are for single occupancy enabling individual and family prayer as well as ‘The Chapel’ on level 0 open 24/7 allowing a place of prayer and reflection for patients, families and their carers, when available

The Jewish House crisis centre with Rabbi Mendel Kastel at its helm, offers pastoral care in a number of areas for Prince of Wales Private Hospital. We aim to be there for those that need us to have a chat, say a prayer, and give reassurance and comfort or provide referral information. We support patients and their families as well as the health care professionals.

The Rabbi is always available for services including:

  • • Regular visits to the Jewish patients residing in the hospital
  • • Providing pastoral and spiritual support to patients
  • • Supporting doctors and nursing staff
  • • A source of referral for Jewish-related issues within the hospital
  • • Referral and liaison with other professional organisations and agencies in order to link people back into the community
  • • Provide family support
